Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center Annual Stockholders' Meeting Held
The Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center Stockholders' Meeting was held on October 28, 2010 at the Elgin Community Center. The evening began with registration and verification of stockholders as they arrived. A delicious supper of pulled pork sandwiches and potato salad with a variety of bars for dessert was provided by the hospital.
The Annual Stockholders' Meeting was Called to Order at 7 p.m. by Hospital Board President Deb Clarys and a declaration of a quorum was announced by Ronald Weikum, legal advisor for the hospital. Jim Opdahl, Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center's Administrator, gave a PowerPoint presentation outlining the history of the hospital and a report of changes and improvements over the past year. The PowerPoint also showed as a comparison of utilization and financial changes over the past twenty years. He then informed the stockholders that the hospital board is going to begin a strategic planning phase and will be holding public forums, which he hopes everyone will attend.
Employee awards were given for those who worked at the hospital for 5, 10, 20, 30, and 35 years by Mr. Opdahl and Theo Stoller, the hospital's Human Resources Director. Hospital CFO Brandon Vaughan reviewed the audit of both the hospital and the foundation for the stockholders. Diane Friesz, president of the Hospital Auxiliary, gave a report on the auxiliary's activities this past year. She also reviewed the history of the auxiliary and recognized Jeannette Brodehl for being a member for 35 years.
Jerome Roehrich, Chairman of the Jacobson Memorial Hospital Foundation spoke to the stockholders about the importance of the foundation, followed by a PowerPoint presentation on the Jacobson Memorial Hospital Foundation by Marci Koepplin, development coordinator for the foundation. Mr. Roehrich awarded a Friend of the Foundation Award to Jeff Hillius, District Manager for MDU, in recognition of MDU fulfilling their pledge of $20,000.00 to the foundation.
Linda Koepplin, Social Services Director and Activity Director for Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center gave a PowerPoint presentation on the volunteer activities at the care center. She thanked those present who were volunteers and asked that the stockholders remember how much it means to the residents of the facility to visit them or volunteer to fix the ladies' hair or help with other activities.
Board members whose terms were completed were announced and nominations for these positions were presented on behalf of the nominating committee by Michell Brabazon. There were no nominations from the floor and a unanimous ballot was cast for the three nominees, Jackie Seibel, Roger Schock, and Eugene Zimmerman. A new nominating committee was selected for next year and Deb Clarys asked for any other business. There being none, the meeting was adjourned.
